A letter to my parents

Nezar Al Nezari

Being a parent is a very big responsibility and commitment, raising and developing a cultured person that might have an effect on society, which is why it is so difficult to give parents what they deserve and reward them for their efforts.

The only way that I can return to them some of what they have done to me is through standing side by side with them when they are in need by supporting them and serving them in any possible way they might require, loving them, honouring them and trying to express my feelings of gratitude and loyalty by generosity and politeness in my words and behaviour.

My father once told me "my son being a parent is something you will never understand until you become one". I belief that it is a wisdom said and it is "truly right" indeed I didn't understand until I became a father, the memories I have about my childhood how my father forbid me to do or make, the needs that I wasn't able or allowed to have or certain activities to perform and things that I have done ignoring my parents which some of them I regret doing. They all came to my sense now it was for my own sake and benefit they acted in a way of protection and fatherhood.

Realizing that now, I hope my children won't be like me, neglecting advice and elderly people’s experience in life and acting by themselves. But nevertheless, days will come and I will try to convince my children to take the correct paths and plan in a right reasonable way. That is how days go on and time repeats itself.

Words are not enough to give my parents what they deserve but at least they may show some appreciation and respect for what they have spent and sacrificed in raising me up and giving me the opportunity to become the man I am now. Here are some beautiful words taken from a wonderful song, dedicated to my beloved parents.

For all those times you stood by me, For all the truth that you made me see, For all the joy you brought to my life, For all the wrong that you made right, For every dream you made come true, For all the love I found in you, I'll be forever thankful …

You are the one who held me up never let me fall, you are the one who saw me through, through it all …

You were my strength when I was weak. You were my voice when I couldn't speak, You were my eyes when I couldn't see, You saw the best there was I me, Lifted me up when I couldn't reach, You gave me faith ‘coz you believed …

I am everything I am because you loved me …

You gave me wings and made me fly, You touched my hand I could touch the sky, I lost my faith you gave it back to me, You said no star was out of reach, You stood by me and I stood tall, I had your love I had it all, I am grateful for each day you gave me, May be I don't know that much, But I know this much is true, I was blessed because I was loved by you….

You were always there for me the tender wind that carried me, A light in the dark shining your love into my life, You've been my inspiration, Through the lies you were the truth, My world is a better place because of you …

  1. Hi!! Your writing is very cordial and actually I can get the large picture of your gentle attitude toward your parents.

Unfortunately, it is fundamentally difficult for younger people to figure out parent's generosity because of their immaturity. Plus, Neither did I. Ya, I was NOT good. Sorry, my parent. But older and more mature we are, more clearly we can understand their invaluable feelings. That should be a part of life...

Now that you are a father, you're starting to learn roles of a father.

    Cheers!!
